doubting-
Although he makes a good point, and I can completely understand his perspective; his logic on the topic of college is nearly impossible for me to try to agreeably comprehend. The dependency on a college degree, usually a bachlors, has increase tremendously in the last couple decades. That old saying, ” Would you like fries with that,” come into play only less because there are certain possition, even in the fast food industry that require a college diploma.
His views on labor day are slightly different than my own as well. He states, ” that it has turned into a three day weekend marking the end of summer. ” This I would say holds truth……for certain groups of people: college students, high school student etc., maybe early retiree’s, but can you say the same for people who literlly do work five or six day weeks with eight to ten hour days. These are the people that would most appreciate Labor Day. I would say they, more than anyone, earned the right to a day off, for whatever interests them most. For me, although I do not fall in this catagory, it would be a night out at the club, on the town. But for someone who does work that much maybe they just need a day of rest.
Believing-
“While college is a good way to gain human capital, it’s not the only way.” The author of the article “Labor Day and the American Dream, ” was; in my opinion, one hundred percent percise on this one phase. There are a million possiblities and although i have mentioned some flaws in this article, that doesn’t change this abundently correct statemnt. You could join the army, start a famous rock band etc. I know clique right? But none the less, it is very possible to have a nice, fun life while maintaining stability “without” a degree. He also list a few others in the article.
The biggest example of this, of course being Bill Gate and Microsoft. But I want to bring your attention to two other who might not of originally popped into your head. First, TOM! You all know Tom, although i doubt many know his last name, to be honest i have not an idea. Tom; the creater of now, one of the most used site on the web, MySpace. He created this site with the knowledge of computers that he obtained in high school, not college and most of it is very simple and common logic. Not to undermine him at all or his accomplishment, he is very smart and intellegent. Even so MySpace is made up of most HTML codes, very tediously put together. The other one being pretty similar and happens to be Tom’s biggest competitor, the creater of Facebook, who if im not mistaken is either just out of high school maybe even still enrolled when he created. I do knwo that both of them were capable of becoming successful with out college degrees, so according to statistics it is Possible to be successful with out college
EVEN THOUGH I STRONGLY BELIEVES IT IS A LOT EASIER TO BE SUCCESSFUL WITH A DIPLOMA!
